This is the story of a girl. And not just some run-of-the-mill teen queen, mind you, nah—this here gal is from space. Well, the future’s more like it, and if there’s one thing to learn about the coming pangs of adolescence, it’s that the more things change, they…well, they don’t change much other than having to deal with the pressures of fending off the occasional alien meanie and a rapacious little snot of a brother who’s there to make life miserable every angst-ridden step of the way.
Space Case Sally’s struggles come courtesy of NYC’s Ashley Quigg (www.ashleyquigg.com), who delivers Sally’s adventures in ongoing arcs updated every Tuesday on www.spacecasesally.com. Ashley’s art style invokes the fine cartoon stripping of old; an all-ages approach that offers little detail—detail that would otherwise get in the way— all in warm nostalgic black n’ white. Less is more, y’know? It’s like cramming Lost in Space with a dash of The Jetsons—she makes it all work in stories anyone can follow and anyone can be a fan of that play out like stills from 60s TV classics.
Currently Sally’s on the mend after warding off the aliens with help from her little annoying bro. But Sally’s life is anything but normal, and soon she’s being stalked by a mysterious stalker who quickly gives chase. That’s page one of the new arc and giving you the spoiler spoils your own reading pleasure, and hey, I’m not that kind of guy. Okay, so the title of the new arc is “Space Case Sally & The Dubious Doppelganger,” so there—there’s your spoiler. I couldn’t keep a secret if you handed me a box in which to put said secret.
The stories are non-offensive slices of futuristic life from the perspective any normal red-blooded space teen, stories for the whole family to enjoy, so if you’re into fun—you do like fun, right?—check in Tuesdays to keep tabs on Sal and the gang.
