This week, we are reviewing the John Carter trailer.
Here is the storyline courtesy of IMDB: Transplanted to Mars, a Civil War vet discovers a lush planet inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter a princess who is in desperate need of a savior.
Directed by Andrew Stanton (WALL-E and Finding Nemo)
Starring: Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man), Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man 3), Dominic West (The Wire), and Lynn Collins (True Blood).
The Good: This CGI spectacular is under the direction of Andrew Stanton, who has a very impressive resume as a director. Featuring a pretty solid cast, this movie has all of the right ingredients to be a pre-summer blockbuster hit for fans looking for an action packed sci-fi adventure. In case you didn't know, this story is based on Edgar Rice Burrough's Barsoom novels.
The Bad: This CGI spectacular is under the direction of Andrew Stanton, who has an impressive resume that includes WALL-E and Finding Nemo, which are animated films and not live action films. Stanton works for The Rat (aka Disney), so we may get something incredibly dopey or incredibly cool. You gotta take the 50/50 gamble with the movie ticket. Also on the negative side, this movie had a reported budget of $250,000,000 and has been in "Development Hell" since the 1930s.
The Verdict: Stanton will either deliver another impressive movie or give us another Dune.
