CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE COMIC BOOK SERIES FROZEN IN ICE

Superman and Batman had no break in their comic run from the Golden Age of Comics to the present. Not so for other super heroes. Golden Age Flash and Green Lantern stopped printing and were reworked and re-introduced during the Silver Age of Comics. Captain America has the strangest history because he's the only Golden Age hero, besides arguably Namor (The Sub-Mariner), to have their series ended and then reintroduced as the same character during the Silver Age.

Issues #74 and #75 were published right after issue #73, in 1949, but they were called Captain America's Weird Adventure Tales. Issues #76 thru #78 were published in 1954, 5 years later. Showcase #4 (the first Flash appearance) which many consider to be the start of the Silver Age of Comics didn't appear until 1956.

To further complicate things after Captain America appeared in Avengers #4 Marvel claimed that the man in #76 thru #78 was not Steve Rogers, but a different man. Thus some consider #73 to be the last Golden Age Cap; some consider #78 to be the last Golden Age Cap and a few consider #75 to be the last Golden Age CAP. There's another reason that they started the Silver Age Captain America comics with issue #100.

There are no Captain America #79-99.... weird.

CAPTAIN AMERICA'S BICENTENNIAL BATTLES: BARRY SMITH AND JACK KIRBY

Our resident comic book artist and comic book guru, Anand 'Kav' Kaviraj, made a great discovery while reading Captain America's Bicentennial Battles.

Ever wonder what Jack Kirby inked by Barry Smith would look like? Well now you know-courtesy of Captain America's Bicentennial Battles 1976 Treasury edition! Enjoy! Barry Smith inking the guy who influenced him-that must have been a trip!

CAN CAPTAIN AMERICA'S SHIELD BE DAMAGED OR DESTROYED?

Champion City Comics artists, writer, and comic book guru, Anand Kaviraj, has made an important discovery!

"Can Captain America's shield be damaged or destroyed? Yes. In Thor #118 the Destroyer easily sliced Mjolnir in two. Thor's hammer once dented Cap's shield, so the Destroyer could easily destroy Cap's shield. The question which has tormented fans for decades has now been answered, here at Champion City Comics!!!!"

CAPTAIN AMERICA AND BATMAN

Champion City Comics artist, Victor Pozzi, asked readers what comic book characters you wanted him to draw and the end result was a tie between Captain America and Batman. Every week, we will ask readers what they want a Champion City Comics artist to draw and the poll will be placed on the right side of the page.

Here are Victor Pozzi's drawings of Captain America and Batman. I've added some comments and feel free to share your comments in the comments section. Enjoy!

I like Victor's drawing of Captain America because he gave Cap a pistol. A great superhero needs a good offense and a good defense to be successful. I'm not saying that Cap has to be the Punisher and put a bullet in everyone's head, but sometimes a superhero has to show his enemies that he or she means business. Captain America is a soldier not a pacifist.

I like how Batman is slightly turned with a "You got a problem?" look on his face. Fantastic.
